Evaluation
ATS Evaluation Students will receive a formal evaluation by their supervising ACI at the mid-point and conclusion of each rotation. A mid-rotation evaluation is designed to provide the ATS with constructive feedback and guidance on improving his/her clinical skills. This evaluation is not a graded component at this time. The final evaluation is specific to the clinical level of each ATS and is a graded component of the courses that include clinical education (Appendix VI-X). Following the review, the ACI and ATS sign and date the final evaluation for inclusion in the ATS' file. Satisfactory completion of each rotation is considered a critical component of the students' academic progression. Students who do not receive satisfactory evaluations are placed on probation. A conduct evaluation is also included at the end of each semester. This component is a reflection of the ATS' professional conduct and personal characteristics. Please refer to the Probation and Academic Progress criteria for additional information on student progression. ATS Evaluation of the ACI/Clinical Setting At the conclusion of each rotation the ATS evaluates both the supervising ACI and clinical setting. The evaluation of the ACI is to be completed and submitted to the Program Director (Appendix XII) at the conclusion of each rotation. The ATS also evaluates the clinical setting (Appendix XI). These evaluations are used by the ATEP to review and evaluate the effectiveness, strengths, and weaknesses of each ACI and clinical setting. The information in these evaluations will be used to consider changes such as but not limited to outcomes, objectives, rotations, equipment, and sequencing of proficiencies. ATS Evaluation of ATEP/Alumni Evaluation Near the conclusion of the ATS' fourth year or final semester, the student will complete an evaluation of the Athletic Training Educational Program. This evaluation includes a review of the student's preparation in the basic domains of athletic training and the student's perception of his/her preparation to perform program outcomes. Alumni of the ATEP are also asked to provide feedback on all courses required by the major. In addition, alumni comment on their perception of preparation for the BOC exam, Luther College ATEP influences on career success, and comments about career choices. ATS Evaluation of Clinical Outcomes At the conclusion of each semester the student completes an evaluation of clinical outcomes. (Appendix XV) The outcomes listed in the Athletic Training Student Handbook are specific to each year of the clinical education experience along with the first year observation. Students respond to the outcomes of their specific year only and have the opportunity to comment on improvements to didactic and clinical education. ATS Final Evaluation Prior to May 10 of the spring semester during the fourth year or concluding semester students must complete an exit interview with the Program Director. At this time the ATS will receive a final evaluation of his/her clinical experiences. (Appendix XIV) The ATS is given the forms to evaluate the ATEP and provide feedback on the educational program design, sequencing, clinical and field experiences, as well as providing summary information on the clinical instructors. |
