H/PE Facilities

Physical Space

1. Classrooms

The Regents Center houses three classrooms each of which can accommodate approximately thirty-five students.

2. Legends Center

Completed in March of 2001, the Legends Center is a hub for student activity and instruction throughout the year. The facility contains:
a. 6,500 square feet for free weights (lower level)
b. 4,000 square feet for strength and exercise equipment (top level)
b. 650 square feet of climbing wall
d. 600 square feet of common space
e. Additional space for information desk, restrooms, storage, and office.

3. Indoor activity spaces

Luther's HPE Department has an abundance of indoor spaces that serve as teaching stations for a multitude of HPE activities. These include:
(i) Gymnasiums (4)
a. Hardwood basketball courts (4)
b. Volleyball courts (6)
c. Badminton courts (12)
d. Basketball
e. Pickleball courts (8)
(ii)Dance studio
(iii) Wrestling room
(iv) Indoor golf driving range
(v)Track (6 lane, 200 meter)

4. Outdoor activity spaces

Luther's campus encompasses 800 acres which affords students many outdoor opportunities. Spaces extensively used by the HPE Department are:
(i)Outdoor tennis courts (9)
(ii)400 meter, all weather track
(iii)Golf driving range
(iv) Soccer fields (4)
(v)Rugby pitch
(vi)Softball field
(vii) Football
(vii)Baseball field

5. Office space

The HPE faculty and staff are clustered in two main areas of the Regents Center.

6. Meeting space

There are two meeting rooms in the Regents Center. The Swiggum Room is designed for smaller groups (approximately eight people) and the Regents Center Conference Room will accommodate a larger group (approximately fifteen people).

Other campus resources

 

The HPE program offers a variety of courses and several of these courses utilize resources outside the department.

Sokveien Trail - this is 1.5-mile grass trail winding through a portion of the campus used for running and cross-country skiing.

Roslien Woodlands - this is a wooded area with a trail system that is utilized by our mountain biking class.

Round table room (Olin building)- this is a room housing computers and software designed to facilitate group discussion. The system is designed to provide anonymity to the respondents in hopes of promoting honest dialogue among the participants.
